Mahama was to progressively introduce free SHS but Akufo-Addo’s wholesale introduction is what causing the mess today – Akatsi North MP

The member of parliament for Akatsi North, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe has blamed the Akufo-Addo led government for the mess created in Ghana’s education after introducing Free SHS.

According to the ranking member of parliamentarian select committee on Education, the challenges being currently faced with the Free Senior High School is as a result of how Akufo Addo rashly introduced the policy.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s Maakye with Kwame Appiah Kubi, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe described Akufo Addo’s way of introducing the policy as “wholesale introduction”

He stressed that the policy without the slightest shake of doubt is a good policy that ought to have been introduced progressively as the constitution stipulates.

An estimated amount of 2 billion Ghana cedis is needed every year for the Free SHS policy to be sustained.

According to local media reports, since the introduction of the policy, an amount in the region of 8 billion Ghana cedis has so far been spent on the Policy.

Asked by Kwame Appiah Kubi whether the policy should be abolished, the member of parliament retorted that it should not but rather be reviewed.
