1 Teacher, 1 Laptop: 30% salary deduction could be a clear mistake from somewhere – MoE
The ministry of education says the 1 teacher 1 Laptop initiative was proposed by the Teachers union themselves.
According to the ministry, the proposal which was put forward by the teacher unions fell into their plans considering the essence of digitization in today’s daily activities.
The ministry’s PRO, Kwasi Kwarteng speaking on ‘Maakye’ on Kessben FM/TV revealed that Government-funded 70% of the cost of the laptop while the teachers paid the other 30% of the cost.
The initiative has raised lots of complaints from teachers across the country about the amount of money which is being deducted.
The Ministry apparently confirmed that each laptop cost GHC1500. However, some teachers ars saying they have been deducted more than the 30% cost which is supposed to be GHC400.
A number of Teachers have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the whole project stating they already have laptops and do not see the need for them to be deducted monies to get them laptops.
Kwasi Kwarteng throwing more light on the laptop project, however, explained that the deductions are not directly from the salaries of the teachers but from the teachers’ development allowance.
