YEA JOB FAIR: Queue for office jobs were longer while security jobs had no traffic – Justin Kodua
Thousands of Ghanaian youth thronged to the international conference center in Accra on 9th September 2021 when the Youth Employment Agency held for the first time a job Fair.
The chief executive officer of the Youth Employment Agency described the new initiative which is scheduled to take place across all regions in Ghana as a fairly successful one.
Lawyer Justin Kodua speaking on Accra-based Kessben 92.9FM with Omanhene Yaw Boakye said the initiative is not only designed to provide jobs for the unemployed youth but also help in building capacity and training.
According to the CEO of YEA, the program was fairly successful with massive traffic at the Accra international conference center, he was however surprised that most of the job seekers who attended the program were after white colour jobs.
“We wanted to go beyond the usual community policing and nursing opportunities where the Youth are employed for a period of time. With such after two or three years, the person becomes unemployed again. With this, we’re looking at providing permanent employment for the Youth. There are more companies at the Job Fair with vacancies at their companies, they are doing the interviews and recruiting directly.
There has been huge traffic at the place especially for jobs like administrative jobs and engineering jobs having longer queues but for security jobs, there is no traffic. Is a 2-day program, and it will not end in Accra. We’re going to have similar programs held in every region in Ghana” He said.
