We’ll use traditional ways to summon NPP chairman if…

The Akumahene of Sunyani, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng says the NPP has up to Friday to present its Brong Ahafo regional chairman before the Traditional Council for publicly disrespecting the Paramount Chief of Sunyani Nana Asor Nkrawirie II.
Failure to do so, the Council would go all out including resorting to “customary and traditional ways” to get the chairman Kwaku Asamoah Cheremeh to appear before it, Nana Kwaku Sarbeng told Joy News Tuesday.
When President Mahama visited the Brong Ahafo region during his ‘Changing Lives Tour’ early this month, Nana Asor Nkrawiri was reported to have canvassed votes for the president as the 2016 elections beckon.
Though chiefs are barred from participating in partisan politics, the chief publicly declared that he was content with the development projects the government has brought to his area and therefore assured the president of about 80% votes from the region.
In a swift response, the NPP Regional Chairman is said to have criticized Nana Asor Nkrawiri II, accusing him of “stooping to the lowest level” in calling on residents to overwhelmingly endorse the president.
He also said among others that the Paramount Chief failed to act as father for all by his action.
But his public criticism of Nana Asor Nkrawiri has not been taken lightly by the chiefs of the area.
Akumahene of Sunyani told Joy News’ Evans Mensah publicly criticizing the chief in such foul words is deemed disrespectful.
He explained that the chiefs are not so much concerned about the criticism because the Paramount Chief is not above that. However, the “derogatory” comments by Mr. Cheremeh is something that cannot be countenanced.
“To tell an elderly man he has stooped to the lowest level means a lot: [it means] childish, his comments not matured, so it is a complete insult to the overlord of Sunyani,” he asserted.
Though the Council is yet to hear from the NPP, he said, the party has up to Friday to appear before the Nananom (chiefs).
“They will come,” he stated, ruling out the slightest idea of the NPP disregarding the summon but later added “If they don’t come we will try all possible customary and traditional ways to get them to come.”
If all means failed, he indicated, “we will advice ourselves”.
But the Communications Director of the party in the region, Adjei Marlick who claimed he had not seen the summon because he was out of town, told Joy News it is not the intention of the party to “bring the traditional authority into disrepute”.
In spite of being brought up in line with tradition,  he said, as politicians, they are forced to respond to issues that have the potential to dwindle their electoral fortunes.
The party would convene a meeting and respond to the summon appropriately, he promised.
