School Feeding matrons unhappy with mode of payment

Caterers under the school feeding programme in the Volta region have raised concern over the new mode of payment for services rendered.
Some caterers who spoke with Joy News said the new mode of payment – through MTN mobile money – has not been favorable to them because of the charges on every withdrawal.
According to them, apart from the charges, there have also been delays in payments making it very difficult for them to work.
They have therefore asked government to review the new mode of payment and also address their challenges in order to give school children quality foods.
Speaking as part of a tour of the various districts in the region, deputy minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dela Sowah said irregularities and plain thievery by some caterers under the school feeding program have forced some donors to with hold their support.
She added that more schools could be put on the school feeding program if the caterers accurately report the number of pupils.
