“There is no tension in Presby church”

The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has downplayed claims that there is tension and bad blood between the church and its affiliates in the United States of America.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Friday, the Public Relations Officer of the church, Rev. George Larbi said there is no tension in the Presbyterian family, and critics should ‘stop painting the church and its Moderator black’.
Rev Larbi was reacting to allegations leveled against the Moderator of the Presbyterian church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, some of which claimed he was tarnishing the hard earned image of the church.
Moderator of the Conference of Ghanaian Presbyterian Churches in North America (CGPCNA), Rev. Yaw Nkansah, alleges that Rev. Prof. Martey is bent on severing ties with the Church in the US and withdrawing pastors posted from Ghana because the Presbyterian church in the US has accepted the presence of homosexuals in church.
Rev Nkansah disclosed that Prof Martey has recalled the resident pastor of the Church in New York, immediate past Moderator Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong Manso, and has been creating confusion between the churches for a very long time. Rev Frimpong Manso is to return to Ghana latest by December 31, 2015.
He however insists there is no link between the US branches of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana and the Presbyterian Church of the US, and it would be wrong to punish them for the deeds of their compatriots.
“We are still Ghana Presby and not ready to follow what the Americans are doing and so we don’t understand Prof Martey’s conduct” Rev Nkansah stated on Adom FM’s morning show of Thursday October 8, 2015.
Discounting the claims, the PRO for the Presby church in Ghana maintained that Rt Rev Prof. Martey had nothing to do with the letter recalling Rev. Dr. Yaw Frimpong Manso to Ghana.
“There is no iota of truth in what Rev. Yaw Nkansah said. I’m even surprised because Rev Martey has nothing to do with the issue and so we are very shocked to hear a whole Moderator in the States speak like that.
“The Moderator didn’t sign any letter, the Moderator is not responsible for signing any letter, the letter sent to the former Moderator was signed by the Clerk of the General Assembly” he stressed.
As well, he explained that the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has, at General Assembly meeting, voted to severe ties with the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America because the US church had voted to ordain and marry homosexuals.
Rev Larbi called on the general public to discount the allegations and pray for the growth of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
