Unpaid Nurses and Midwives declare indefinite strike

The Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives has announced an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries and arrears.
The strike takes effect today, Monday October 5, until they are paid all monies due them.
The over 7,000 health professionals were employed between 2011 and 2015.
The nurses said while some have not been paid for more than a year, others received only three months payment after working for more than three years.
Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.3 FM, the spokesperson for the Coalition, Douglas Adu-Fokuo justified their decision claiming they have tried unsuccessfully on several occasions to get authorities to settle their salaries.
He said the situation has made life very difficult for them as they are left with no option than to go in for loans with huge interest rates while others become a burden on their relatives as they depend on them for survival.
Douglas Adu-Fokuo noted that they remain unmoved in their resolve and will only return to work when they see monies hitting their accounts.
“No promises from government is going to get us back to work, we’ve had enough of promises. They have failed us anytime they promised”.
