NPP boycotts Kumbungu by-election

After boycotting the Akatsi and Buem by-elections, the NPP has officially confirmed its decision not to participate in the Kumbungu by-election scheduled for April 30.

The Kumbungu seat became vacant following the appointment of the current Member of Parliament, Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni as the Secretary-General of the African, Caribbean and Pacific group of states.

Northern Regional NPP Secretary, Dr. Clifford Braimah told Citi News the Electoral Commission could not be trusted in conducting free, fair and transparent elections.

According to him, boycotting the Akatsi and Buem by-elections and participating in that of Kumbungu will amount to double standards.

Dr. Braimah was hopeful that the Supreme Court will fast track the case and come out with electoral reforms that will safeguard the nation’s democratic credentials.

Until the Supreme Court finally decides on the 2012 election petition filed by Nana Akuffo Addo, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Jake Otanka Obetsebi Lamptey, the party has taken a firm position on the credibility of the Electoral Commission in conducting subsequent elections.
