Fake marriage certificates don't come from us – KMA lawyer

Lawyer Anthony Osei-Poku, head of the legal department and registrar of marriages and divorces at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), has said that fake marriage certificates are not issued by the metropolitan assemblies in the country but by imposters.
Anthony Osei-Poku said on Kessben Television’s morning show Adeakye Abia that most of the fake marriage certificates come from so-called marriage contractors, mostly in Accra, who can do anything from endorsing documents with fake signatures to issuing fake certificates.
He further explained that the complaints received are overwhelming, so the judiciary and the embassies together with the assemblies and the security service are working hard to tighten the system regarding the registration of marriages and divorces.
Lawyer Osei-Poku pleaded with the public to go through the right process whenever they want marriage or divorce certificates.
“Please come directly to our offices and do not allow an imposter to deceive you into believing he or she can issue a certificate for you in a short time. Observe due diligence,” he cautioned.
