Afriyie Ankrah, Fred Darko appear before World Cup Commission

Former Minister of Youth and Sports Elvis Afriyie Ankrah will on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, appear before the three-member Commission of Enquiry set up by President John Mahama to investigate Ghana’s participation at the World Cup tournament in Brazil.
Afriye Ankrah was reassigned from the Sports Ministry after Ghana made international headlines at the tournament for all the wrong reasons including jetting $4million dollars by air to pay the bonuses of the football team, Black Stars, and a scuffle between a player, Sulley Muntari, and GFA executive member Moses Parker.
Afriyie Ankrah is expected to provide a background to the various activities that went into the selection and arrangements for supporters of the national team, including the six committees he formed to implement those plans.
He will also provide a background to the circumstances leading to negotiations between the government, Ghana Football Association, and the Black Stars in the period before and during the World Cup.
Afriyie Ankrah, who will appear along with his project coordinator for the organisation of Ghana’s participation, Fred Darko, was named several times by the Chief Director of the Ministry,Alhaji Abdulai Yakubu in his testimony before the Commission last week as the sole architect of all plans surrounding Ghana’s botched World Cup participation.
