The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mahama Ayariga this morning met the Deputy Director General of the Ghana Education Service to discuss the development of sports in schools.
The meeting highlighted the importance of the development of sports in schools as the foundation of developing the country’s sports.
A joint working group drawn from the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education was formed to work on a number of tasks. These include;
1. The development of a strategy for the improvement of sports infrastructure in schools
2. The development of the capacity of sports teachers
3. The development of a programme of competitions at all levels – interschools, interzonal, interdistrict, interregional, and national to unearth talents
4. A strategy for the financing of sports in schools
5. A strategy to ensure that talented sports girls and boys don’t loose out in terms of their academic development.
