Did Black Stars not believe me? – Afriyie Ankrah
Outgoing Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has among many questions sought to find out if for any reason the Black Stars doubted him.
In an exclusive interview with Paul Adom Otchere on Good Evening Ghana on Sunday evening, the minister said he used all manner of persuasion to let the players know that their appearance fee was ready, but their (players) position was “we need our money”.
“That was when I began to realise that they had their doubts,” he said.
Earlier there were reports that members of the management team had been paid out of the money sent to the players, but the Minister denied reports saying that only 23 players and 10 members of the technical team, suming up to 33, were paid.
“People created all manner of lies against me, its unbelievable. They started with my wife, and when they realised that it wasn’t true they diverted the story to my wife’s family, and then to my Mum, saying that she was selling replica jerseys, which is not true. These were all lies for crying out loud!”
Mr Ankrah again denied reports that he ate the players’ food. ” I didn’t eat the players’ food. I ate the supporters’ food because I had complaints that the food was bad.”
Mr Ankrah later thanked the the Ghanaian Ambassador to Brazil, Mr Samuel Dadey for the support he gave them during their stay in Brazil.
