Vodafone outlines remedial measures on network problems

Vodafone Ghana has outlined a series of remedial measures it will take to ensure the resilience of its network going forward.
This follows an outage on June 3, which led to communications problems for customers across the network.
In a statement, the telecom operator said that it had conducted a thorough analysis to identify the cause of the problems leading to the outage.
It explained that the network issues were caused by an electrical surge, which resulted in six boards in three of its routers not responding correctly.
According to the statement, the company had not only replaced these six boards, but had also taken additional steps to further improve the reliability of the network in future.
Vodafone said it will also undertake a detailed technology and power audit to ensure the future strength of the network.
Mr Haris Broumidis, Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, said the systems have been performing well since the remedial steps were introduced.
The company, he said, had conducted several network performance tests, which show the network experience is “back to normal”.
Mr Broumidis added that network traffic rapidly recovered following the incident, and that the company had begun compensating customers for the outage on June 5.
A majority of prepaid customers have already received compensation. Enterprise customers will receive a discount on their bills at the end of June.
