NCA begins investigations into seized Indian hemp

The Narcotic Control Authority (NCA) has began investigations into the 250 kilograms of cannabis which was seized at the Kotaka Airport.

11 persons believed to be employees of the perishable cargo unit of the Kotoka International Airport, were reportedly arrested on Thursday in connection with a shipment of fruits which contained the 250kg of Indian hemp.

Speaking to Citi News, the Executive Secretary of the Narcotic Control Authority, Akrasi Sarpong, said the authority was doing everything possible to determine how ten boxes containing cannabis did not show on the scanners.

“After people have signed and it goes through the scanner, it goes through a holding place before they have a mother company that sends the things to air site,” he stated.

Mr. Sarpong further noted, “On that night, ten boxes, after people had checked, were found. We are confident that when we checked, there was nothing inside so what we are asking is that how did those ten things get onto the plane? And when it arrived at its destination, the packaging was entirely different from the way the previous ten boxes were packaged.”

Adding that, “Investigations are ongoing. Did it go through the scanner? If it did, then why did customs and NACOB sign it? If it didn’t, where was it put on? Was it put in the holding room before it left?”

Eleven persons believed to be employees of the perishable cargo unit of the Kotoka International Airport, have been arrested in connection with a shipment of fruits found to contain 250kg of Indian hemp.

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) arrested the 11 persons immediately the substances were discovered.

The arrested persons were said to be on duty on the night the items were scanned for shipment.
