John Dumelo, others condemn xenophobic attacks

Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has joined celebrities who have publicly condemned the ongoing xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
According to the actor, the attacks on foreign nationals, which have claimed five lives so far, must stop, stressing it is the height of injustice to attack defenseless nationals of other countries.
The foreigners have been killed in a wave of anti-immigrant violence that started two weeks ago in Durban, in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.
The violence, according to reports, was ignited by alleged comments by Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini. The King is alleged to have said that foreigners should leave South Africa.
In 2008, about 60 foreign nationals were killed in similar attacks when locals vented frustrations over the lack of jobs in Africa’s second largest economy.
John Dumelo in a post on Instagram Friday condemned the second wave of attacks stating it is senseless to kill “fellow Africans.”
“The xenophobic attacks against Ghanaians, Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa must stop! This is the height of injustice. We are all Africans, we are all one people, with one positive goal. What’s the point in killing and attacking fellow Africans?” he asked.
Ghanaian actor Van Vicker also adding his voice, said on Instagram, “I add my voice…Say NO to Xenophobia”.
On Thursday, awarding winning South African music duo, Mafikizolo, known for the hit song ‘Khona’, called for an end to the attacks.
“Stop xenophobia, everyone is a foreigner somewhere. I am against xenophobia, I believe we are all created in the image of God, Mafikizolo said.
South African rappers Cassper Nyovest and AKA have also condemned attacks.
