Barring any last minute changes, the Supreme Court case involving New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Nana Akufo-Addo and the two others challenging the credibility of the 2012 elections, the panel of Judges will soon begin the hearing of the substantive case.
Citi News checks at the Supreme Court indicate that all the parties involved in the case; the Electoral Commission, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), President John Mahama, Nana Addo and two others have filed all necessary responses and documents to allow for the substantive case to be heard.
In an interview with Citi News, a member of the Nana Addo’s legal team, Madam Gloria Akuffo said they are waiting for the court to give direction on how to proceed.
“We don’t know what the other parties intend to do. The court made an order that we should file our amended petition which we did and also to provide the further and better particulars which we did. It also gave the opportunity for the respondents to file any amended answers which they have.”
She further explained that the Court is now expected to give a date for “us to go to court. As to whether in the course of the trial, anything can happen.”
Madam Akuffo added that she is expectant that the court “will give directions as to how the matter will proceed; that is what we are waiting for. So as to whether anybody will bring any application on the other side, I cannot anticipate; I don’t know what they are planning to do.”
Meanwhile, the NDC is also looking forward to the hearing of the substantive case. A member of the party’s legal team Victor Adawudu, told Citi News, “I believe that all the parties involved have filed what the court directed them to do and we will go back and I am sure that the Registrar will put the issue before the Chief Justice when they will give us a date to meet in court and I am sure when we get to court, the court will give directions as to how the case will go.”
