Alhaji Mumuni to resign from Parliament?

Member of Parliament for Kumbungu constituency in the Northern Region, Muhammad Mumuni will have to resign as the MP of the area because of his appointment to serve the unexpired term of Dr. Mohammed Ibn Chambas as Secretary General of the Africa Carribean Pacific (ACP) group of states.

Speaking to Citi News Parliamentary Correspondent, Richard Sky, MP for Kade constituency, Fosu Asamoah said “If he accepts the new international assignment then the standing orders of the house will not permit him to combine the two, so he has to resign his position.”

“The bottom line you should not hold an office that is likely to interfere or disturb the performance of your duty as a member of parliament. And as Secretary General for the African Carribean in the Pacific he will have his office outside Ghana is likely to interfere with parliament and he may not give off his best for his constituents, so he may have to resign.”

Meanwhile there are a number of examples of MPs who in the past resigned their positions as Members of Parliament because they had to take up other positions .
