I have no control over Informer – Koku Anyidoho

Communications Director at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho, has denied rumours that he is the brain behind the Informer newspaper.
Rather, he partly owns the Ghanaian Lens newspaper with its Managing Editor Kobby Fiagbe, which they set up around 2003, he has revealed.
Rumours have persisted that Mr Anyidoho is the man pulling the editorial strings behind the scenes and influencing the paper’s publications, which have consistently been anti-NPP, but the Castle Director of Communications insists this is not true.
The Informer, as per information freely available at the back of the paper, has Andy Kankam as Editor-In-Chief and is published by Candrews Ventures, and registered with the National Media Commission as NMC/C 139/08/700.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show on Tuesday November 27, 2012 Koku said because he had worked with and trained Andy Kankam at the Ghanaian Lens, it was easy to assume that he was still mentoring Andy Kankam. As well, he had a good relationship with editors of NDC-inclined newspapers such as the Informer, Ghanaian Lens and Palaver, and he gives them information as and when they request for it.
“NDC papers, the only one I have a stake in, in terms of ownership, or a strong alliance is the Ghanaian Lens. The Ghanaian Lens was set up by myself and Kobby Fiagbe way back in 2002-2003 when NDC was in opposition, and we’ve worked very hard up to this point…
“Andy (Kankam) used to work with myself and Kobby on the Ghanaian Lens; he was our young man, went through training at my hands and at the hands of Kobby Fiagbe, before he decided to and set up his Informer, and because of that strong bonding between myself and him somehow and for some reason, people think that everything in the Informer, it is Koku Anyidoho who is responsible for it.”
Asked directly by show host Adakabre Frimpong Manso if he had any direct editorial control over the Informer, Koku Anyidoho responded, ‘No.’
Mr Anyidoho was responding in this instance to calls by NPP member Kwabena Agyepong for him to restrain his editors at the Informer, who in his opinion had displayed a high level of unprofessionalism by attributing words and meanings to his statements on Joy FM’s current affairs programme Newsfile.
The comments were in relation to claims by pro-NDC papers Informer and Al-Hajj that he had ‘confirmed’ that NPP flagbearer Nana Akufo-Addo had left Oxford University under a dark cloud and had therefore not included it in his CV.
An unhappy Kwabena Agyepong called Koku Anyidoho on Monday to restrain his ‘boys’ at the Informer and later expressed similar sentiments on radio. However, Mr Anyidoho, apart from dissociating himself from Informer publications, advised the former Presidential Spokesperson to be less emotive if he wanted to stay in the “game” of politics.
