Ghana is a sick nation – Prof. Akosa

A former flagbearer aspirant of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Professor Agyeman-Badu Akosa, has stated Ghana is a sick nation due to the politicisation of every issue, especially health and education.
He said the country will continue to crawl in the area of development because, “we have had too much of partisan footballing in education and health and that is what has led us where we are.”
Speaking at Citi FM’s Roundtable Series on the ‘Health Agenda for Election 2012’ on Monday, the former Director General of the Ghana Health Service, cautioned that health and education are the major social interventions which should not be politicised.
“I say this on behalf of the Convention People’s Party that health and education are the major social interventions that have made anybody who he is or she is and we therefore believe that health and education should not be put on a partisan political platform. You leave health and education to a politician, you will get a very raw deal,” he explained.
Prof. Akosa therefore called for the setting up of a Presidential Commission to address the issues of health and education to ensure every Ghanaian has equal access to them.
According to him, the Presidential Commission on Health and Education is to “harvest the intellectual might of this country, create a kind of blue print for education and health that no other political party can deny this country of.”
