NDP working to get more MPs
The National Democratic Party (NDP) is poised to ensuring that its members are elected into Parliament during the December Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
According to the party’s Deputy Communications Director, Dr. Hilarious Abiwu, the NDP will not be deterred in its quest to providing a credible alternative to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The nomination forms of the NDP’s flagbearer; Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was rejected by the Electoral Commission and subsequently sued the EC for a breach and violation of its rights to political participation.
Speaking to Citi News, Dr. Abiwu stated that the party will respect the decision of the court on the matter saying, “as a political party, we want to go by the rule of law and we feel that the courts are the place where the decision has to be taken whether or not we deserve to contest in this election or not. If the court makes a decision on that one, we think we will respect that decision and go by the ruling.”
He, however, clarified that the party’s political career is not over as widely perceived by critics.
“Political parties are built for the present as well as the future and so we are not perturbed at all irrespective of the outcome of the suit which has been filed against the EC. Our only regret is that for the next four years, the grassroot of our party will not see their flagbearer or the one they hoped to see as the next President of Ghana,” Dr. Abiwu explained.
