Wearing Of Smock Banned 0ver Insecurity In Bawku

The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has with immediate effect banned the wearing of smock in Bawku township.

According to REGSEC, this decision was necessitated by the fact that criminals or unscrupulous elements hide arms and ammunition in smock and attack opponents or innocent civilians.

A statement signed by the Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu said all persons living in Bawku township are to take note of the directive and comply until further notice.

It directed the Municipal Security Council(MUSEC) to ensure that this order is enforced, adding that anyone who fails to comply should be dealt with accordingly.

Meanwhile, a curfew has been placed on the Bawku Municipality from 4:00 pm to 6:00 am after a shooting incident on Tuesday evening.

The curfew is effective Wednesday, November 24, 2021, according to a statement from the Interior Minister.

“The imposition of the curfew has been as a result of the threat of insecurity in the communities concerned,” the statement explained.

It further called on the chiefs, elders, opinion leaders, and people of the area to “exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace.”
