Don’t be scared to see us at your doors this X'mas, says Police Chief
The police administration is calling for collaboration from the general public as it rolls out comprehensive security arrangements this Yuletide.
Unlike previous years, when much attention was paid to strategizing against the activities of criminals during this period, the Service has announced plans to station mobile patrol teams in communities nationwide to also offer help to citizens in distress.
Commander of Armored Squad of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Supt. Hamza Yakubu made the disclosure on the Super Morning Show on Joy FM, Thursday December 20, 2012, while discussing security plans for the season.
Chief Supt. Yakubu said the mobile patrol teams will be visible throughout the country while personnel are already stationed at vantage points to direct traffic. He added personnel will also be on major highways to check speeding, which is a major cause of crashes on the roads.
He asked the public to give the police the needed support during the festive celebrations.
He said the Police Administration had taken delivery of over 1,000 patrol vehicles to enable it provide adequate and prompt security.
He urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities within their communities by dialing the toll free lines, 18559 and 191, which are active 24/7, for prompt action.
Directive to transport operators
In a related development, Communications Manager for National Road Safety Commission Kwame Kodua Atuahene said his outfit had directed various transport operators to appoint safety officers to do necessary checks on buses, before departure from the terminals.
Mr. Kwame Kodua Atuahene encouraged passengers to demand the highest professional conduct from drivers, to ensure they do not speed unnecessarily during this period which usually sees an increase in the number of people travelling from one part of the country to the other.
He entreated passengers to call the NRSC’s toll free lines on MTN 18008, Vodafone, 08001800 and Expresso 0800, to report unlawful conducts on the part of the drivers for prompt action to be taken against them.
