COP Mensah meant to say I’m the best IGP in Ghana’s history – Dampare

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has claimed that his record as the head of the Ghana Police Service is spotless.

He asserted that COP George Alex Mensah’s claim that he is the worst IGP in Ghana’s history is untrue. Mensah is the Director-General of Operations for the Ghana Police Service.

Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee looking into a tape that was released about his administration, he claimed that COP Mensah actually meant to call him the greatest IGP Ghana had ever seen.

“I think my colleague meant to say I’m the best IGP in Ghana’s history. I think it was a slip of tongue on his part,”

“Honourable member and honourable chair, several opportunities and what I said yesterday if you give me the opportunity today, I will say it again. For me, for the 31 years I have been in the service, he is the worst IGP ever,”

Former Northern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bugri Naabu has played a major role in the incident involving the exposed tapes.

He and other senior police officers are allegedly heard discussing a conspiracy to depose the IGP in order to assist the NPP in rigging the 2024 elections in the audio recordings that have leaked.
