Open borders and control them, people enter through unauthorized routes – Akufo Addo told

The Akufo Addo led government has been advised to open the country’s borders after a year and a half closure.

According to former Central regional minister, Thomas Tawiah Quansah, regardless of the closure of the nation’s borders, people still enter the country through various means.

The high-ranking member of the National Democratic Congress noted it will be better off to open the borders and have stringent measures put in place than for the borders to remained closed while people use unapproved routes to enter the country.

Thomas Tawaiah speaking on Accra-based Kessben FM with Omanhene Yaw Adu bemoaned over the economic implications over borders closure over the last 17 months.

“I don’t understand why borders have remained closed till now. Airports have been opened and are controlled. Akufo Addo should open the borders and control them”.

“Go to Tema station, and you will see vehicles loading to Nigeria and some other west African countries. People come in and leave despite borders been closed. They have unauthorized routes where they come and leave. Let’s not be hypocrites. Having the borders closed while people are coming in and leaving with the unauthorized routes is even more dangerous so is better to open the borders and control them with proper covid protocols. He added.
