Mama Love foundation donates to windows, needy in Obuasi

Obuasi based Non-Governmental Organisation ‘Mama Love Foundation’ in collaboration with UK based foundation ‘Obuasi Sikakrom Association’ has organized a seminar to empower women and give capital to widows and a sickle cell patient to set-up business in Obuasi.

The Queen Mother of Akrokeri traditional Council Nana Serwaa Buruwaa who acted as the Chairperson for the occasion applauded the organizers for having the wellbeing of widows and the needy at heart.

″ Widowhood is not a crime and is part of human especially women life therefore I plead on families to provide care and have sympathy for widows and their children” Nana Buruwaa added.

Founder of Mama Love Foundation Rev. Love Konadu addressing the media after the program said the Foundation came in to support after the beneficiaries petitioned them with their concerns especially their deteriorating living conditions.

The foundation upon hearing their concerns contacted the Obuasi Sikakrom Association who collaborated with them to support the widows with some capital to set up business and also boost their existing businesses.

″It is better to teach them how to fish than to give them fish” She added.

Talking about the activities of the Foundation over the years, Rev. Love Konadu added that the Mama Love foundation’s aim is to help the needy and the less privilege in the society. As part of this, the foundation has trained young girls in tailoring and equip them with start ups.

″Currently we are putting up a boarding house in Obuasi to enable more needy people get access to our trainings”

Aside training of young girls, the foundation is planning to locate young boys in ghettos to train them. This she said is intended to give them employable skills and prevent them from indulging in social vices.

Speaking on Education, the Founder of Mama Love said the foundation also seeks to sponsor needy but brilliant students to continue their education outside the country.

Some beneficiaries of the widows’ capital expressed their joy and pledged to make good use of the capital received to improve their livelihoods.
