Messi charged with tax fraud

A Spanish Judge has ruled that Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and his father Jorge Messi do have a case to answer on the charge of tax fraud.
The duo were the subject of a complaint filed last week in a courthouse at Gava, Catalonia by tax authorities accusing them of defrauding the state out of more than €4m (£3.4m) in tax.
Messi and his father both denied the allegation, which relates to 2006 to 2009.
However, the judge overseeing the complaint has ruled that the pair do have a case to answer and has agreed the prosecutor’s complaint.
Subsequently, the player and his father have been summoned to court as defendants on Tuesday, September 17.
