30 killed in gruesome Bolga-Tamale road accident
30 persons are reported to have lost their lives when a Metro Mass Transit bus travelling from Kumasi to Bolgatanga collided with a 207 Benz bus travelling from Bolgatanga to Tamale.
The accident occurred at Kogni near Bawah Barracks (airborne barracks) off the Tamale/Bolgatanga road.
An eyewitness who gave his name, Aliasu Salifu said the Benz bus with registration number WR 2712 C, in an attempt to overtake a motor bike drifted into the lane of the oncoming Metro Mass bus with registration number AW 238 Z.
Personnel at the Tamale Teaching Hospital Morgue confirmed to Citi News that out of the number of dead persons, 13 were female including a 7-year old girl.
The Orthopaedic doctor on duty at that time of the incident, Ibrahim Abubakar told Citi News over 30 people received treatment with some being in critical condition.
The Regional Director of the Road Safety Commission in the Northern Region, Alex Ayitah who was at the scene of the incident said preliminary investigations indicate that the accident was a head-on collision between the Metro Mass bus and 207 Benz bus.
The NDC Regional Chairman, Sorfo Azorka and his colleague, Mustapha Kora were on hand to assist with the situation.
The drivers of both vehicles are reported to be among the dead.
