Melcom rescue operation likely to end tomorrow

Rescuers working on the collapsed Melcom multi-storey building would likely wrap up their rescue mission tomorrow, Joy News has learnt.
The disaster which occurred last Wednesday has claimed at least 17 lives and about 70 rescued with several degrees of injuries.
Over the last 24 hours, two more people were found alive by the rescue team, which is also clearing debris left behind in the wake of the disaster.
Joy News’ Elton John Brobbey who has been covering the unfortunate incident since Wednesday said he was informed by the rescue team that their work would hopefully come to an end Monday.
He was told that about 95% of their work done has been completed.
A surviving victim who was sent to Achimota Hospital has also been confirmed dead, he reported.
Meanwhile, CPP presidential candidate, Dr Abu Sakara has commended the rescue team at the Melcom Disaster site for their efforts.
Dr Abu Sakara said the response to the disaster demonstrates how united Ghanaians are.
In a related development, the owner of the Melcom building and Ga West Municipal works director spent the weekend in BNI custody to assist in investigations into the tragedy.
The Ga West Municipal director Carl Henry Clerk is in custody for issuing a permit to the owner of the building without supervising the edifice.
Nana Boadu Nkansah Ayeboafo, who owns the facility, reported himself to the Bureau of National Investigations on Friday.
Deputy Information Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa tells Joy News the two are cooperating with the BNI.
