GNAT rejects gov’t plea to call off planned strike
The Ghana National Association of Teachers has rejected a last minute plea from government to put on hold their planned industrial action over the salary arrears of its members.
The various teacher unions have planned to strike from next week over government’s refusal to pay them their arrears despite the numerous promises.
Government Monday met the representatives of the teacher unions to convince them to halt the strike but leaders of the unions have rejected the appeal and have vowed to strike unless their concerns are addressed immediately.
Speaking to Starr News the Vice President of the Coalition of Concerned Teachers said they want their arrears paid as early as possible.
“This time we are only asking them to pay the money by the 29th of this month else we strike. We knew nothing good was going to come out of the meeting we had with them because that has been the strategy since 2013,” he said.
The teacher have notified the National Labour Commission their intended industrial action.
