Amenfi East: NPP Condemns Alleged Attacks On TikTokers Who Questioned MP And MCE

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Wassa Amenfi East has condemned what it calls a growing pattern of threats, intimidation and physical attacks against social media communicators in the constituency.

In a press release dated October 12, 2026, the constituency executives said two of its communicators have been targeted for demanding accountability from the area’s MP and MCE.

Attack on ‘Awake’

According to the party, Mr. Gidolph, popularly known as Awake, was allegedly physically attacked by a man identified as Ogambo, who is said to be an NDC branch executive.

The alleged attack followed Awake’s criticism of the performance of the MP for Amenfi East, Hon. Nicholas Amankwah.

The NPP says the matter has been reported to the Wassa Akropong Police Command and is calling on the Police to investigate impartially.

Threats Against Kwadjo Mega Over PAC Absence

The second case involves Kwadjo Mega, an NPP polling station communications officer and popular TikTok activist.

The party says Kwadjo Mega has received verbal attacks and threatening phone calls after he questioned why the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Raymond Nana Ebbah, was absent from a Public Accounts Committee (PAC) hearing on grounds of ill-health.

His questions came after a video circulating on social media appeared to show the MCE actively participating in road construction activities around the same period he was reported to be sick.

The NPP stressed that while the video alone does not prove wrongdoing, public officials must respond with facts, not intimidation.

“Where public information appears inconsistent, the appropriate response is to provide clarification and verifiable facts, rather than resort to intimidation or confrontation,” the statement said.

‘Public Accountability Is Not A Crime’

The NPP said accountability is central to democracy and no citizen should be attacked for asking questions about elected officials.

“Public office carries a duty of responsibility, transparency and accountability… Citizens, journalists and political communicators must be able to raise legitimate concerns without fear of violence, threats or intimidation.”

The party also recalled that the current MCE, Hon. Ebbah, himself publicly accused his predecessor, Hon. Frederick Korankye, of allegedly taking money from galamsey operators, arguing that he must therefore accept the same scrutiny he once demanded.

Calls To Action

The NPP is calling on:

1. NDC leadership in Amenfi East to publicly condemn violence and caution its supporters.
2. Ghana Police Service to investigate both incidents without political interference.
3. MP and MCE to address concerns through transparent communication.
4. All communicators to remain responsible and avoid defamation.
5. Chiefs, pastors and CSOs to promote tolerance and peace.

“We will defend the rights and safety of our members through lawful democratic channels. We will neither encourage retaliation nor accept a political environment in which individuals are allegedly threatened or attacked for raising questions about public officials,” the statement concluded.

The statement was jointly signed by Constituency Secretary, Joshua Armoh Ofori (K-Gee) and Communications Director, Samuel Amuah.
