Mahama earmarks GH¢300m for 250 new police apartments in 2027 Budget
President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Finance Minister to allocate GH¢300 million in the 2027 Budget for the construction of 250 new apartments for police officers.
The proposed housing project is expected to ease overcrowding in police barracks and improve accommodation for personnel.
President Mahama announced the initiative on Tuesday, October 13, during the commissioning of an ultra-modern 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital. He said the investment formed part of broader efforts to strengthen the security services and improve the welfare of officers.
“I have requested the Minister of Finance to provide GH¢300 million in the 2027 Budget to construct 250 new apartments for the Police to ease congestion in some of your barracks,” he said.
He explained that the planned accommodation project, together with the expansion of the Police Hospital, would support efforts to enhance the operational capacity of the security services while reducing the risks officers face in the line of duty.
The President also announced additional measures to boost the Ghana Police Service’s operational capabilities, including the provision of armoured vehicles and protective equipment.
According to him, a second batch of 40 armoured vehicles is expected to be delivered in the coming weeks, following the handover of 50 vehicles to the service in December 2025.
President Mahama further disclosed that the government was procuring additional body armour to improve the protection of officers deployed on operational duties.
