JUST IN: Salomey Awiti Baffoe granted GH¢100,000 bail over alleged false news publication

Senior Nursing Officer Salomey Awiti Baffoe has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 in a case in which she is accused of abetting the alleged publication of false news on social media.
The court ordered that Ms Baffoe be released on two sureties, both of whom must be civil servants earning monthly salaries of at least GH¢3,000.
Ms Baffoe, 40, has pleaded not guilty to the charge and had remained in custody as the case progressed.
Her continued detention has raised concerns among her family, who have appealed to the government to facilitate her release, saying her absence is affecting her children, who are struggling without their mother.
The latest bail order follows an earlier decision by the High Court to deny her bail after prosecutors argued that she was still needed to assist with investigations and could interfere with witnesses.
The case has also suffered further delays, with proceedings adjourned to October 5 because the presiding magistrate is attending a conference for judges and magistrates.
Ms Baffoe is alleged to have participated in the publication and circulation of false information on social media.
The prosecution is expected to continue presenting its case when the matter resumes, while her lawyers maintain that she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Her release will be subject to the fulfilment of the bail conditions imposed by the court.
