The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has graduated a total of 1,275 students at the first session of the 18th congregation School of Graduate Studies and UPSA Law school at a ceremony.
It comprises of 189 from the School of Law and on this number 4 students obtained First class, 57 second class upper, 67 second class lower, 51 third class and 10 pass.
The School of Graduate Studies on its part presented 1,086 students and also comprises of 73 Master of philosophy students, 554 Master of Business Administration,196 Master of Arts, 222 Master of Science and 41 Master of Laws.
For the first time in the history of the university four master’s degree students achieved a final cummulative grade point average of four out of four in their respective final examination.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. John Mensah Mawutor said during the year, the university has introduced 16 new academic programmes including Doctor of Philosophy in Public Policy and Leadership, MPhil Applied Statistics, MSc Applied Statistics, MSc Energy Economics and Finance, MBA leadership and strategy.
The others are MBA Human Resource Management, MBA Business Management, MBA Asset and Wealth Management, LLM Competition and consumer protection law, and LLM International Business and Commercial Law, MA Natural Resources and Climate change Law, LLM Natural Resource and Climate change Law, BSc Applied Statistics, BSc Data Science and Analytic, BSc Agribusiness and Finance and BA Applied French and Communication.
He added that the Faculty of information technology and communication of studies is graduating the first batch of its Master of Philosophy in information systems as the faculty of management studies is also graduating its cohorts of master of Philosophy in management studies.
“The UPSA Law school is graduating the first group of its Masters of Laws in competition and consumer protection law, Masters of laws in international business and commercial law and Master of laws in Natural and climate change law,” he added.
Touching on the Pre-Bar Course, he said it’s a one-year transitional programme introduced to address the curricular gap, adding that the course serves as a prepatory bridge for eligible LLB graduates before progression to Law Practice Training (LPT) noting that 239 applicants from the UPSA law school have been admitted and have registered to pursue the Pre-Bar law course.
“UPSA continued to support brilliant but needy students through scholarships with valuable assistance from alumni as management is considering a student food bank for students facing financial difficulty” he said.
For his part, Dr. Philip Oti-Mensah, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Universal Merchant Bank, urged graduands to remain focus in their academic space by exploring opportunities in the World of Works (WOWs)and cultivate the habit of humility and all working endeavors.
