A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team, Cornelius Owusu Asare, has questioned how a cocaine shipment allegedly worth about $261 million was able to pass through Ghana before being intercepted in another country.
Speaking on Kessben Maakye show in Accra, Asare said the development raises serious questions about Ghana’s ports and the institutions responsible for preventing narcotics trafficking.
He said the Minority is therefore demanding answers from the heads of relevant institutions, insisting that those responsible must account for how the shipment allegedly passed through Ghana.
Asare further questioned the government’s approach to the broader cocaine issue, saying there was public concern over why attention was being given to the arrest and prosecution of Salomey Awiti Bafoh while questions surrounding the alleged cocaine shipment remained unresolved.
Bafoh, a Techiman-based nurse, was arrested on September 17, 2026, and charged with abetment of the publication of false news in connection with the “Ghana Jollof” social media case. The Ghana Police Service says investigations identified her as having allegedly assisted in circulating content produced by Barbara Asantewaa Kodua.
Asare also questioned the presence and role of institutional heads in addressing the cocaine-related concerns.
He maintained that the NPP’s position is that justice must prevail and everyone connected to the cocaine issue must be dealt with according to the law.
He further alleged that people are being “muted” for speaking about the matter and warned that the situation could have implications for Ghana’s reputation internationally.
The comments come amid heightened public discussion over alleged cocaine trafficking and the government’s handling of related investigations.
