Remember Nkrumah By Defending Nationalism and Protecting SOEs – CPP

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called on Ghanaians to remember Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah by defending nationalism and protecting State Owned Enterprises (SOEs).

In a statement issued today, 21st September 2026, to mark exactly 117 years since the birth of the founder of modern Ghana, the party said Nkrumah’s life was defined by volunteerism and nationalism, which forms the core of his philosophy and ideology.

Signed by the National Communications Director, Osei Kofi Acquah, the statement expressed deep worry about the state of SOEs.

“The CPP is deeply worried about how the State Owned Enterprises and Factories have been left to rot whilst others have been continuously sold to politically exposed persons and cronies since his overthrow,” the statement said.

The CPP specifically kicked against moves to privatize the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

“Today, there is an agenda to privatize the Electricity Company of Ghana which we the CPP is vehemently against.”

The party described as illogical the belief that enterprises owned by over 30 million Ghanaians cannot be managed properly by the state but can be managed effectively by a single individual.

“We are therefore on this day calling on government to restore, revamp, maintain and properly manage State Owned Enterprises and companies to create employment for the numerous unemployed youth of Ghana as well as generate revenue for government.”

The statement concluded:

“Long live the legacies of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah. Long Live Pan-Africanism. Long Live Nationalism and Patriotism. Long Live Mother Ghana.”
