Wontumi Campaign Throws Weight Behind John Boadu For NPP National Chairman

The Wontumi Campaign Team has officially closed ranks behind former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, in the race for National Chairman of the party ahead of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference slated for October 3, 2026 in Kumasi.

The declaration was made on Monday, September 8, 2026, at a press conference addressed by Denise Okyere Danso, Administrator for the Wontumi Campaign Team, in a statement issued by Ewuradjoa Coleman, Director of Media and Communication for the campaign.

According to the statement, the decision follows a visit by the leadership of Chairman Wontumi’s campaign to Chairman Wontumi at the facility in Nsawam where he is currently held on Friday, 4th September 2026, and extensive consultations with grassroots, constituency actors, campaign leadership, party elders and stakeholders across the country, as the party gears up for its crucial national elections in Kumasi.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the media, distinguished Party faithful, members of the Wontumi Campaign, friends and supporters across the country: Today marks an important turning point in our political journey,” the statement said.

“The Wontumi Campaign has taken a firm and decisive position: to throw our full support, strength and political weight behind the candidature of Mr. John Boadu for National Chairman.”

The campaign stressed that the endorsement is not a casual one, nor a decision born of convenience or political pressure, especially with the October 3 national contest approaching.

“It is a deliberate and strategic choice, guided by what we believe serves the best interest of the New Patriotic Party and its future. We have listened, consulted and carefully weighed the political landscape. We are convinced that the time has come to consolidate our strength, build bridges and unite the broadest possible political force for the task ahead,” the statement added.

The Wontumi Campaign described itself as bringing to the partnership a formidable grassroots network of committed activists, executives, communicators and supporters across the country, while John Boadu brings extensive institutional experience, deep knowledge of the Party’s organisational structures, strong relationships across its ranks and a proven record of frontline service.

“When grassroots strength meets institutional experience, and mobilisation is matched with organisation, the NPP becomes a formidable force for victory. We believe John Boadu is best positioned among the aspirants to lead the Party back to its winning ways and to help build the political strength required to return Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the presidency in 2028,” the statement said.

Bigger Than Two Campaigns

The campaign said the moment calls for unity over personal ambition, describing the decision as choosing the entire house over protecting one’s own corner, as delegates prepare to converge on Kumasi on October 3 to elect new national leaders.

“The NPP’s overriding objective is to return to government in 2028. That requires unity, discipline, organisation and clarity of purpose. We cannot afford to dissipate our energies through factionalism and internal division when those energies are needed to rebuild, reorganise and prepare the Party for the battle ahead.”

The October 3 elections in Kumasi are expected to elect national executives who will lead the party’s reorganization and strategy for the 2028 general elections.

Message To Wontumi Family: Organise For John Boadu

To supporters of Chairman Wontumi, known widely as the Wontumi family, the campaign said consultations are over and the direction is clear ahead of Kumasi.

“Wherever you organised for Wontumi, organise for John Boadu. Wherever you mobilised for Wontumi, mobilise for John Boadu. Wherever you stood for Wontumi, stand for John Boadu. From today, our strength must speak with one voice and move in one direction,” the statement directed.

The Wontumi Campaign also called for unity without bitterness, insisting that the announcement is not a declaration of war against any aspirant contesting on October 3.

“We respect the right of every aspirant to seek the confidence of the Party, and the right of every member to support the candidate of his or her choice. Internal democracy must never become internal warfare.”

The campaign concluded with a message to the John Boadu Campaign and the wider NPP.

“A major political force has made its decision. The Wontumi Campaign stands with John Boadu. We are united in purpose. We are organised for victory. And together, we move forward with confidence to Kumasi on October 3,” the statement said.
