John Boadu: I Have The Experience And Strategy To Rebrand NPP For Victory In 2028

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has declared his readiness to lead the party as its next National Chairman, saying he has the experience, strategy and grassroots touch to rebrand the NPP and return the party to power in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking to the press moments after successfully going through vetting by the NPP’s National Vetting Committee on Monday ahead of the party’s National Delegates Conference slated for October 3, 2026 in Kumasi, a confident-looking John Boadu said the vetting process was thorough, firm and fair.

According to him, the committee did a detailed job in assessing the capacity and vision of all aspirants for the various national positions.

“So far, the vetting process has been very thorough. It has centered on our understanding of the party, our finance, our structures, and what it takes to run this party. Thank God we have gone through it successfully,” he told journalists at the party headquarters.

Mr. Boadu, who is one of the frontrunners for the chairmanship portfolio, used the opportunity to outline his core vision for the NPP if given the nod by delegates.

He said his main priority will be to provide wise and inclusive leadership, ensure strict implementation of party decisions, help in raising resources, and most importantly rebrand the party to make it more attractive to Ghanaians again.

“We need to provide a wide-range leadership for this party, monitor and make sure that decisions that are taken by the party are implemented, help in raising resources and making sure that we rebrand the party for victory. I believe that we can reclaim power and restore hope. We are not just talking about victory, we will work for victory, and that is exactly the discussion we had with the vetting committee,” he emphasized.

On his plan to return the NPP to power, John Boadu insisted that unity and rebranding are non-negotiable and that he possesses the winning formula that has helped the NPP secure victories over the years.

He noted that his long service from polling station to national level, coupled with his tenure as National Organizer and later as General Secretary for over a decade, gives him an unmatched understanding of the party’s internal mechanics.

“The strategy, the experience, the germane ideas alone is enough. The thinking that has helped in bringing victory over the years is still with me, and I believe that working as a team, we will be rising again and be very direct towards 2028. That institutional memory is crucial for rebuilding,” he added.

Touching on concerns about the large number of aspirants picking up forms for various national positions and what it means for unity, Mr. Boadu said it rather shows the NPP is strong, democratic and attractive.

When asked about his chances given the calibre of other contenders in the chairmanship race, he was emphatic that his track record speaks for itself.

“We have a discerning delegate base. Our delegates are made up of people who understand the party. It is a masterclass of experienced political actors. This is not about mere talk. My face alone, my work alone, my contribution alone is enough. Where is the balance? It means that people have seen more and they know what I can do,” he stated.

Mr. Boadu further called for a clean campaign devoid of insults and personal attacks, stressing that after October 3, the NPP will need every single member on board to face the NDC in 2028.

He disclosed that his nationwide campaign tour has been very encouraging so far, with overwhelming support from grassroots, youth and women organizers.

“The campaign is going very well. The reception has been massive. After today’s vetting, I am moving out again to continue campaigning around the country. We are touching every region, every constituency. The message is simple: Let’s rebrand, let’s resource, let’s win together in 2028,” he concluded.

The NPP will on October 3, 2026 converge at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for its National Annual Delegates Conference to elect new national executives who will lead the party into the 2028 elections.

John Boadu, who served as General Secretary from 2015 to 2022, is seeking a comeback, this time as National Chairman. He faces competition from several other stalwarts including Paul Afoko and other yet-to-be-confirmed aspirants.

Party faithful say the October 3 election will define the direction of the NPP as it seeks to reorganize and recapture power after losing the 2024 elections.
