Former NPP Sweden Chairman, Richard Oti Aboagye, has filed his nomination to contest the National 1st Vice Chairman position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the National Delegates Conference slated for October 3 in Kumasi.
Aboagye filed amid a strong show of support from the diaspora and youth organizers, with supporters flying in from across Europe to back him.
“Some of them flew all the way from Germany, Sweden to follow me today, and you know Nana Sekyiwa came all the way from Germany. I have Finland Chairman, Russia Chairman also here with me, and I have my able youth organizers across the country, and I’m really grateful for the love,” he said after filing.
Why He Is Contesting
The aspirant said the NPP’s defeat in the last election forced him into deep reflection as a lifelong member of the party.
“After we lost the last election, as a true lover of this party and as a patron who has dedicated almost half of my life to serve this party, I sat back, did reflection on my own, and followed keenly the committee’s work. Based on the data and looking at the results that came out of the last election, the party lost touch.”
He said the central question for him was how to solve the party’s problems, noting that some party members feel they were treated unfairly. The answer to that question, he said, is the reason he is in the race.
According to him, the NPP needs a generational shift.
“I think that in this current NPP, we need an injection of new faces and new voices into the party’s work. Some of us who understand the party, the principles behind the formation of this party, and we have followed and worked for the party over the years, we cannot sit aloof. We must step up to rescue this party and to make sure His Excellency Dr. Bawumia is the next President of Ghana.”
Chairman For The Youth
Aboagye, who believes he is one of the youngest aspirants in the race, said the NPP must connect with the youth who will dominate the 2028 polls.
“If I’m not mistaken, I’m standing out as one of the youngest persons in this race. In 2028, 70 to 80 percent of the people in the queue will be among the youth, and so as a party, we need the generation that understands the thinking of this youth. We need the generation that understands how the youth form their ideas, how they are informed at the polls, and so I present myself as the chairman for the youths, as the chairman for the new generation of this country.”
Mandate: Restore Hope And Win
He said his mandate is clear.
“For me, the mandate is simple: it is to help this party win the next election, and to help this party restore the hope that has been lost, to restore the image that has been lost.”
He thanked his supporters for their cooperation and pledged to work for victory.
