Tampico Eyes Long-Term Impact with Accra Inter City Marathon, Says Brand is “Open” to Year-on-Year Support

Beverage brand Tampico says it is committed to using the newly launched Accra Inter City Marathon to drive health, create opportunity, and support Ghana’s youth with an openness to making the race an annual fixture.
Speaking at the grand launch of the marathon at Zimansky Hotel, Roman Ridge on Tuesday 18th August 2026, Bismarck Ken Twum, Business Consultant for Western and Central Africa at Tampico, said the brand’s involvement goes beyond sponsorship.
“Tampico is a fun-loving brand, and we believe in investing in ventures that promote health, that drives opportunity and equally supports the future of our youth,” Twum said. “This marathon is something that drives all three things that I’ve mentioned.”
Health, Opportunity, and Youth at the Core
According to Twum, the marathon aligns directly with Tampico’s brand values.
In terms of health, he said the race encourages fitness and active living. On opportunity, he noted that the event gives participants a platform to be seen and potentially move to the next level in athletics. And for youth, he said Tampico wants to keep young people engaged, fit, and connected to the brand.
“We believe that this is something that drives both health and opportunity because somebody will have an opportunity to move to the next level, somebody will get exposed,” he said. “We want to encourage the youth to be part of some of these ventures to keep them fit, keep them lively, and keep them enjoying Tampico at any point in time.”
How Tampico Will Measure Success
When asked what success looks like for Tampico after the first edition, Twum said it won’t just be about who crosses the finish line first.
“For us, success is a healthy community. Success is an engaged community,” he stated. “This event is not just about a marathon, but it’s something that is bringing a community together, and for us, that is the success. To get people come in their numbers, run, keep fit, and promote health — for us that is the success.”
Open to Making It Annual
Organizers have expressed a desire for the Accra Inter City Marathon to run every year. Twum said Tampico is “open to have the conversation” about long-term partnership.
“Things that promote health, things that drive opportunity, and bring the community together is something that we believe needs to be a recurring event. So it has to be a year-on-year activity for us,” he said.
While stopping short of a lifetime commitment, he added: “We cannot give any commitment to say, ‘Oh, we are going to be partners for life.’ But so long as this is driving the right engagement, is driving the healthy living that we are promoting, we are fully committed to support.”
The Tampico Accra Inter City Marathon was launched alongside the National Sports Authority’s broader “reset” agenda for Ghana sports, with a focus on grassroots participation and corporate partnerships.
