‘Whenever EOCO needs me, I’ll be available’ – Miracles Aboagye

Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says he will cooperate with the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in its ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).

Mr Aboagye, a former Executive Secretary of the IMCCoD, said he would make himself available whenever EOCO requires him but declined to comment extensively on the allegations, citing the ongoing investigation.

Speaking with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV’s Face to Face on Tuesday, August 11, he said, “Whenever EOCO needs me, I’ll go. And I’ll go and have conversations.”

He said it would be inappropriate to discuss the substance of the investigation publicly and directed questions about the allegations to EOCO.

“I don’t want to comment on this. I think that, in all fairness, if you have any questions, you can direct them to EOCO,” he said.

Asked whether he or former IMCCoD accountant Gerald Appiah had been asked to repay any allegedly misused funds, Mr Aboagye said he did not know and declined to comment on whether he intended to make any repayment.

“Anybody that has anything to know should ask the right people. You’re asking the wrong person,” he said.

He rejected suggestions that he was afraid to discuss the matter, explaining that he was deliberately refraining from commenting because EOCO had not concluded its investigation.

“It’s unnecessary for you to have a conversation around a matter that EOCO says they are investigating. I may even be giving out information that I’m not supposed to give up,” he said.

He added, “I’ve done this for 23 years. This is not where to tell the truth. I know where to tell the truth.”

Asked whether EOCO had formally charged him or whether he was a suspect, Mr Aboagye declined to comment.

“I don’t know. Ask EOCO. I don’t know,” he said.

His comments follow a High Court order issued on August 3 freezing five bank accounts and four landed properties belonging to him as part of EOCO’s investigation. The order temporarily bars transactions involving the accounts and prohibits the sale, transfer, mortgage or disposal of the properties until further orders from the court.

EOCO is investigating alleged financial and procurement irregularities involving approximately GH¢55 million during Mr Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary of IMCCoD.

The investigation followed a forensic audit of the Secretariat covering August 1, 2022, to February 2, 2025.

EOCO confirmed in July 2026 that Mr Aboagye, Mr Appiah and others were being investigated over suspected misappropriation, misapplication, diversion and theft of public funds.
