As the New Patriotic Party prepares for internal elections and the road to 2028, a growing call within the ranks is for leadership focused on healing, unity, and rebuilding.
In a statement circulating among party faithful, one long-time NPP member Kwabena Sarfo says the Party’s next National Chairman must be a “rescuer” — and for them, that leader is Hon. Boakye Agyarko.
“The NPP needs a rescuer. The NPP needs a unifier. The NPP needs Boakye Agyarko,” the statement read.
“To Rescue the NPP”
The author, who describes decades of service to the Party, said the decision followed a recent engagement where Hon. Boakye Agyarko addressed lecturers at the *University of Cape Coast.
“I have listened to many aspirants over the years, but there was something different about him,” the statement noted. “He spoke with calm confidence, deep conviction, and, above all, a genuine love for the NPP. There was no grandstanding or empty rhetoric – only a clear understanding of where we are, why we are here, and what must be done to restore our Party.
When asked why he wants to lead the Party, Hon. Agyarko’s answer struck a chord:
“To rescue the NPP.
“Those words resonated deeply with me because they reflected what many of us have been quietly feeling,” the author wrote. “Our Party does not simply need a new chairman; it needs renewal. It needs healing.”
The Case for Renewal
The statement argues that the NPP’s current challenge is not just about winning an election, but about restoring the soul of the Party.
It outlines what it calls the core needs of the NPP heading into 2028:

“The NPP has always been bigger than any individual. It is a tradition built on sacrifice, service, discipline, and the unwavering belief that we exist to improve the lives of Ghanaians,” the statement said.
“To preserve that tradition, we need leaders who are prepared to rebuild our structures, reconnect with our grassroots, restore trust among our members, and remind us why we joined this great Party in the first place.”
Experience, Character and Vision
After the UCC engagement, the author says they left convinced that Hon. Boakye Agyarko has the credentials to lead that process.
“After listening to Hon. Boakye Agyarko, I left convinced that he has the experience, the character, the courage, and the vision to lead that process.”
The endorsement frames the upcoming chairmanship contest not as a personality clash, but as a decision about the Party’s future direction.
“This is not about personalities. It is about the future of the New Patriotic Party. It is about ensuring that the Party we have all invested our time, energy, and loyalty in emerges stronger, more united, and better prepared for the challenges ahead.”
A Clear Choice
The statement concludes with a direct appeal to delegates and members who share concerns about the Party’s current state.
“For me, the choice is clear. I stand with Hon. Boakye Agyarko because I believe he is the leader who can rescue, reorganise, and reposition our Party.”
“If we truly love the NPP, then this is the time to choose the leader who can restore its soul, rebuild its strength, and renew the confidence of its members.”
Hon. Boakye Agyarko, a former Minister for Energy, is among aspirants positioning themselves for the NPP National Chairmanship ahead of the Party’s internal elections.
