Education Minister Reaffirms Government’s Commitment to TVET Reform
Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu says the government is reforming Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) by integrating emerging digital skills, soft skills, and practical trade competencies, alongside efforts to build entrepreneurial capacity aimed at developing a skilled workforce for the job market.
According to the Minister, investments have been prioritized to provide the infrastructure needed for Competency-Based Training (CBT), improve the public image of TVET, and expand access to meet the labour demands of Ghana’s growing 24-hour manufacturing economy.
He made these remarks while presenting his Ministry’s mid-year performance report at the Government Accountability Series Press Conference, held at the Presidency in Accra to account for achievements in the first half of 2026.
Iddrisu revealed that the government has begun constructing two regional TVET Centres of Excellence in Salaga and Kumasi, designed to foster innovation and simulate real-world work environments for trainees.
To close the gap between classroom instruction and industry expectations, he said the Ministry has prioritized Workplace Experience Learning (WEL) for all TVET students, an initiative he described as essential for helping students transition from theoretical knowledge to practical, hands-on application, ultimately boosting their employability and job readiness.
The Minister also disclosed that the Ministry has partnered with 1,820 private sector and state-owned enterprises to facilitate industrial attachments and hands-on training opportunities for TVET learners.
