Mahama inspects near-completed 1,500-capacity assembly hall at Peki College of Education

President John Dramani Mahama has inspected the nearly completed 1,500-capacity multipurpose assembly hall at the Peki College of Education, assuring the institution that the facility will soon be commissioned once furnishing is completed.

Speaking during the inspection, as part of #ResettingGhana Tour, President Mahama recalled that the project was initiated during his previous administration but was abandoned for the past eight years after the change of government.

He said his administration had prioritised completing the auditorium upon returning to office, describing it as a “beautiful edifice” that would significantly benefit the college.

The President disclosed that the only outstanding work was the installation of furniture, adding that the contractor had assured government that the furniture would be delivered before the end of the month.

“We’ll come back with the traditional leaders and all the people in the area to commission this beautiful auditorium for your institution,” he said.

President Mahama also noted that his previous administration completed the girls’ hostel at the college before leaving office, although it was never officially commissioned before students began using it.

Beyond infrastructure, the President reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving teacher education across the country. He announced that approval had been granted for the recruitment of at least 16,000 new teachers as part of efforts to clear the backlog of trained teachers awaiting employment.

He said government was also investing in hostels and other infrastructure across colleges of education to improve teaching and learning conditions.

President Mahama assured students and management that Peki College of Education would continue to benefit from government’s investments in the education sector and would not be left behind in ongoing development initiatives.
