Prophet Roja Donates Relief Items to Flood Victims in 7 Accra Communities, Calls for Strict Enforcement of Sanitation By-laws

The founder and leader of Roja City International Ministries, *Prophet Samuel Roja*, has extended humanitarian support to hundreds of flood victims across seven affected communities in Accra, with a renewed call on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to strictly enforce sanitation by-laws to curb the capital’s recurring floods.

The outreach, which commenced at the *Alajo Chief Palace*, saw Prophet Roja lead a delegation from the church to distribute essential relief items to families who were displaced and affected by the recent heavy rains.

The donated items included bags of rice, bottled drinking water, assorted beverages, washing powder, and other critical household supplies aimed at helping victims begin the recovery process.

The gesture forms part of Roja City International Ministries’ ongoing commitment to combine spiritual leadership with practical support for vulnerable communities during times of disaster.

“This Flooding is Preventable” – Prophet Roja

Speaking to residents, traditional leaders, and media during the presentation at Alajo, Prophet Roja expressed deep concern over the annual destruction caused by flooding in the capital. He noted that each rainy season continues to wash away homes, destroy livelihoods, and displace families who are already struggling.

According to him, the root of the problem is not only heavy rainfall but human behavior and weak enforcement of existing laws.

“The situation we are witnessing is largely due to poor sanitation practices,” Prophet Roja stated. “When we indiscriminately throw refuse into drains and gutters, we are blocking the natural flow of water. So when the rains come, the water has nowhere to go except into our homes.”

He stressed that while public education on sanitation has been ongoing for years, more decisive action is needed from local authorities.

Prophet Roja therefore called on all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) across Greater Accra to move beyond awareness campaigns and begin strict enforcement of sanitation by-laws.

“By-laws exist for a reason. They must be enforced. People must be held accountable for dumping waste in drains and in unauthorized places. This is the only way we can deter environmental offences and reduce the risk of flooding,” he said.

A Call to Traditional Leaders and Residents

The man of God also appealed directly to traditional authorities, particularly the Chief of Alajo, Nii Armah II, and other chiefs in flood-prone areas to intensify community sensitisation. He urged them to use their influence to encourage residents to adopt responsible waste disposal habits and to keep their surroundings clean.

With the Ghana Meteorological Agency forecasting heavier rains in the coming weeks, Prophet Roja warned that the impact of future floods could be minimized if communities take proactive steps now.

“There is an urgent need for all of us to desilt gutters, keep drains free of waste, and stop dumping refuse in waterways. Flood prevention is everyone’s responsibility. Government institutions, traditional leaders, religious organizations, and community members must all play our part to protect lives and property,” he added.

Chief of Alajo Commends Church’s Intervention

The *Chief of Alajo, Nii Armah II*, who received the delegation at the palace, commended Prophet Roja and Roja City International Ministries for their timely intervention.

He described the donation as a clear demonstration of compassion, solidarity, and love for the people during a difficult period.

“This is not the first time we have seen Roja City standing with the people,” Nii Armah II said. “In times like this, what our people need is support, and the church has shown that leadership is not only about preaching but also about action.”

Beneficiaries Express Gratitude

Beneficiaries across the seven communities, including Alajo and other affected areas in Accra, also expressed appreciation for the support. Many said the relief items came at a critical time when they had lost food, clothing, and other household items to the floodwaters.

“This rice and water will really help us. We lost almost everything when the water entered our rooms,” one beneficiary at Alajo shared. Others noted that the washing powder and beverages would help them clean their homes and restore some normalcy as they pick up the pieces.

Commitment to Humanitarian Service

The July 8 donation is one of several humanitarian initiatives undertaken by Roja City International Ministries over the years. The church has previously supported communities during health crises, periods of economic hardship, and other natural disasters.

For Prophet Roja, the work reflects a biblical mandate to care for the vulnerable.

“Our faith calls us to be our brother’s keeper,” he said. “When disaster strikes, the church must be present not just in prayer, but with food, water, and practical help. This is how we show the love of God to the people.”

As Accra braces for more rain, the church says it will continue to monitor affected areas and work with local leaders to identify additional communities in need of support.
