Interior Minister Opens 2026 GIS Regional Commanders’ Conference in Accra
Leadership calls for stronger synergy to drive sustainable growth in the Immigration Service

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, on Monday officially opened the 2026 Ghana Immigration Service Regional Commanders’ Conference at the GIS Centre of Excellence in Accra.
The five-day conference is being held under the theme “Strengthening Command Synergy for Sustainable Growth.” It has brought together the Service’s top leadership to deliberate on strategies to enhance collaboration, communication, and mutual support across all regional commands.
Addressing participants at the opening ceremony, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak charged the commanders to use the platform to align operations with national security priorities and the government’s broader agenda for migration management.
He emphasized that effective command synergy is critical in tackling contemporary challenges such as irregular migration, border security, human trafficking, and the use of technology in service delivery.
“As regional commanders, you are the backbone of the Service. The decisions and cooperation that come out of this conference will directly impact how effectively we protect our borders and serve the people of Ghana,” the Minister stated.
Also speaking at the event, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Samuel Basintale Amadu, said the conference provides an opportunity for leadership to take stock of achievements, identify gaps, and set a unified direction for the year ahead.
He noted that sustainable growth within GIS will depend on consistent communication between headquarters and the regions, improved resource allocation, and a shared commitment to professionalism.
Mrs. Yvonne Atakora Obuobisa, speaking on behalf of the Chairman of the GIS Governing Council, commended the Service for its dedication to duty and urged commanders to uphold discipline, integrity, and innovation in their respective commands.
She reiterated the Council’s support for initiatives aimed at modernizing the Service and improving staff welfare.
The 2026 Regional Commanders’ Conference is expected to conclude on Friday, July 10, with a communique outlining key resolutions to guide the operations of the Ghana Immigration Service for the rest of the year.
