I did not say those who said Bawumia can never be president will not be considered when he becomes president – Hon Kyei Mensah Bonsu clarifies viral Kessben TV interview

Former Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has clarified comments he made during a recent interview on Kessben TV, stressing that he never said individuals who previously claimed that Mahamudu Bawumia could never become President would be denied opportunities when he eventually assumes office.
According to Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, his remarks have been widely misunderstood. He explained that his comments were directed at party members seeking leadership positions within the party ahead of the 2028 general elections.
He stated that the 1992 Constitution provides for political parties to market their political, social, and economic policies and programmes through party structures, particularly Polling Station Executives under the supervision of Electoral Area Coordinators and Constituency Executives.
“For the election ahead, that is 2028, it is the vision of Bawumia that the party is going to advertise,” he said.
He further noted that individuals who openly declared that Dr. Bawumia could never win an election in Ghana should, in good conscience, reconsider contesting for party positions unless they have genuinely changed their views.
“In that regard, those who went out brazenly and declared that DMB can never win any election in the country should in good conscience not go for positions, unless they have had a change of mind and heart. Otherwise, it may mean they just want to take the position but wouldn’t work to bring power to the party,” he explained.
Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu emphasized that his comments were not about excluding anyone from consideration in a future Bawumia administration, but rather about ensuring that party executives are fully committed to the party’s presidential candidate and its electoral success in 2028.
His clarification comes amid public debate and varying interpretations of his original comments following the Kessben TV interview.
