Defending champions Apagya SHS retains World Environment Day Quiz Crown

Reigning champions, Apagya Senior High School, in the Adansi South District of the Ashanti Region, has successfully defended their title, emerging winners of the 2026 World Environment Day Quiz Competition held on Friday, 5 June 2026.

The competition was organized by AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine in partnership with Underground Mining Alliance (UMA), the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), the Keeping Obuasi Clean Campaign (KOCC), and the Kwame

Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Obuasi Campus, as part of activities commemorating this year’s

World Environment Day.

Apagya SHS secured the top position with 26 points to claim the coveted title and a GHC 50,000 school-based project

support package. New Edubiase Senior High School placed second with 24.5 points, while Obuasi Senior High Technical School finished third with 24 points.

The winning team, represented by Robert Odame Addo and Raymond Donkor, also received laptops, backpacks, notebooks, exercise books, and other educational items.

The competition began with an essay-writing stage involving 11 schools, with five advancing to the grand finale.

Other World Environment Day activities included environmental education campaigns, radio discussions, and monitoring of school tree-planting exercises.

Speaking at the event, Closure Manager, Francis Sarfo emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship and urged the students and community members to protect natural resources and promote sustainable practices.

Held under the theme, “Inspired by Nature: For Climate, For Our Future,” the celebration reaffirmed AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine’s commitment to environmental responsibility and empowering young people to champion climate action and sustainable environmental management.
