The National Film Authority has officially launched its maiden seed fund allocation with a government-backed GH¢20 million package aimed at revitalising Ghana’s film and creative arts industry.
The launch ceremony, held at the Silverbird Cinemas Accra Mall in Accra, brought together key stakeholders in the entertainment sector, filmmakers and government officials.
Board Chairman of the authority, Ivan Quarshiga, unveiled the fund and reaffirmed government’s commitment to supporting the growth of the creative industry through strategic investment and institutional support.
According to him, the seed fund is expected to empower industry players, improve film production standards and strengthen the operational capacity of creatives across the country.
Mr. Quarshiga also inaugurated two important bodies — the Development Fund Committee and the Film Classification Board — to oversee the disbursement of the fund and regulate film classification activities in the country.
Members of the Development Fund Committee include Mawuko Afedzinu,
Kafui Danku Fitcher,
Samuel D Clarke Acheampong, George Bosompem, Salasie Ibrahim, Michael Owusu Ansah, Akyereko Abbey,
Kofi Adinkra and Desmond Ansah.
The Film Classification Board comprises Lord Akwetey, Gilbert Ekow Ampa, Helina Opoku Sarkodie,
Baba Haruna, Malam Issah, Daniel Clarke, Adamu Musah Abubakar, Karikari Bediako, ASP Anyeba and Okotwarensuo Kantamanto Oware Agyekum.
Special Guest of Honour and Chief Executive Officer of TV Africa, Kwaw Ansah, cautioned that the fund must not be treated as an avenue for free money.
“The seed fund is not for free lunch,” he stressed, urging the newly inaugurated boards to remain vigilant, firm, creative and focused in managing the fund to ensure it delivers lasting benefits to Ghana’s film industry.
