In a colourful and historic ceremony, the Akrofuom Divisional Council has enstooled former District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Dr. Maurice Jonas Woode, as the Asomdwoe Hene (Chief of Peace) for the traditional area.
Following his enstoolment at the palace on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, he was given the stool name Nana Asare Barfour.
The ceremony attracted a large gathering of traditional leaders, community members, family, and well-wishers who came together to witness and celebrate the honour bestowed on the former DCE.
Recognition for Exemplary Leadership
According to the Akrofuom Traditional Authority, the honour was conferred on Nana Asare Barfour in recognition of his outstanding leadership and commitment to peace during his tenure as DCE.
The traditional council noted that, as Chairman of the District Security Council (DISEC), he played a pivotal role in resolving emerging chieftaincy disputes that had the potential to disrupt peace and stability within the district. Through timely interventions, impartial leadership, and a strong commitment to security, he helped maintain harmony in the area.
The chiefs further urged the youth and residents of Akrofuom to emulate the humility, dedication, and leadership qualities demonstrated by the newly enstooled chief and to support him in his new traditional role.
“I Was Simply Performing My Duty”
Speaking after taking the oath of office, Nana Asare Barfour expressed deep appreciation to the chiefs and people of Akrofuom for the honour.
“I thought I was just performing my duties. I never imagined that one day traditional leadership would honour me in this way,” he stated.
He explained that his efforts to maintain peace and security in the district were carried out purely as part of his constitutional responsibility as DCE and head of DISEC, without any expectation of recognition or reward.
Nana Asare Barfour also acknowledged the invaluable support of members of the DISEC team and the traditional authorities whose collaboration contributed significantly to sustaining peace and order in the district.
Commitment to Youth Empowerment and Development
Looking ahead, Nana Asare Barfour pledged his unwavering commitment to the development of Akrofuom, with a strong focus on youth empowerment and peaceful coexistence.
As part of his vision, he announced plans to introduce initiatives aimed at engaging and empowering young people through:
• Skills training programmes to enhance employment and entrepreneurship opportunities;
• Community engagement activities to promote unity and social cohesion among the youth; and
• Recreational and educational programmes to positively channel youthful energy toward development.
