BREAKING: Landlords who are renting out rooms from their houses that are not hostels to students to be sent to court

Badu Richmond, the Ashanti Regional Manager, has warned that landlords renting out rooms to students without officially registering their properties as hostels could face legal action.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Richmond said authorities are closely monitoring accommodation facilities operating around educational institutions to ensure they comply with the required regulations and standards.

According to him, some landlords have converted private homes into student accommodation facilities without proper approval, creating concerns over safety, sanitation, and overcrowding.

“Landlords who are renting out rooms to students but the houses are not being hostel to be sent to courts,” he stated during the interview.

He explained that property owners who fail to regularise their facilities risk being prosecuted, adding that the move is aimed at protecting students and maintaining proper housing standards.

Richmond further urged landlords to follow the legal process for hostel registration to avoid sanctions and ensure safe living conditions for students.
